About Cirkus Surreal

Cirkus Surreal is an award winning school based circus program at Denison College Kelso High Campus in Bathurst which was established by Stephanie Brown in 2002. It aims to provide a safe, supportive and educational environment for high school students. The program caters for students from a range of background and is an inclusive program which encourages engagement from at risk youth and young people with disabilities As part of the program, we offer students a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit international locations through a performance tour, with the aim of building links between a variety of peoples and cultures, as well as broaden their horizons in terms of future learning / work prospects.
Being part of a physical program like Cirkus Surreal, students learn about living a healthy lifestyle. Our students find the benefits extend beyond a sense of community and friendship and into both fitness and dietary education. To our students from disadvantaged backgrounds, this unique and tailored education can be the defining positive factor in their successful completion of their high school education.
The experiences, and cultural and relational lessons they learn have a profound effect on their sense of self and view of the world. For some of our struggling students, the self-confidence such experiences develop prepare them for the challenges they will go on to face in life. They feel valued.
Through the program Cirkus Surreal offer aerial and floor acrobatics, juggling, uni cycling, stiltwalking, balances, cyr and German wheel as well as many other exciting apparatus.Students are able to learn multiple disciplines or specialise in one.
Cirkus Surreal is self funded and relies on the support of our local community as well as our performances to sustain the program.
