Join us for the joint exhibition opening of Exploded textiles and Art Word Place at the Tamworth Regional Gallery during Artstate.
Exploded textiles is an exhibition of textile-based works by leading Australian and international contemporary artists, drawn from the collections of the Art Gallery of New South Wales and Tamworth Regional Gallery. Exploded textiles presents textiles as a potent conceptual
medium, one rich with diverse historical, social and political associations from the wider world.
Art Word Place focuses on the interplay between text and image. Writers from the Arts North West region have been commissioned to create a short poem based on their home landscape. Selected artists have then drawn on this composition as the basis and inspiration of a new work capturing the identity and sense of place of the New England North West. There are recurring themes – of rivers, plains and sky, of drought, of adversity but also of optimism.
