The Museum Residency Projects

As a part of Artstate Bathurst, three projects were commissioned from artists-in-residence at three of Bathurst’s museums; the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum, the Chifley Home and the National Motor Racing Museum. Artists were asked to create new work in response to these museums and their collections. As part of Artstate Bathurst, all registered delegates will have free entry to participating museums on presentation of their delegate’s lanyard.

Johanna Williams & Jesse Alston (Chifley Home)

We know who the Chifley’s were to Bathurst – the Prime Minister and his wife, a dam, a street, a museum and more named in their honour. But what was Bathurst to Ben and Elizabeth Chifley?
Homekeeper is an interactive art installation that explores what it is that makes a home – the place where you were born, the place you chose to be, the place of family and friends, or just somewhere where you can kick off your shoes and take off your pants after a long day. Made in collaboration with members of the Bathurst community, visit a miniature town propped up by sentimental and unreliable memories, pick up the phone to listen to their stories, and contribute your own to help the town grow. Explore regional NSW as a place of creativity, sentimentality, and value.
