23 year old Australian singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Tullara has quickly developed a reputation as one of the country’s brightest up and coming performers. Renowned for her guitar playing, described as “beautifully complex and intricate while within an instant raw and powerful”, Tullara has an endearing stage presence full of honesty and swagger.
Hailing from Ramornie – the quiet countryside inland of Grafton, New South Wales, Tullara has been astounding crowds across Australia for the last 7 years. Claiming the title of Overall Winner (from 300 competitors) of the CCMA National Talent Competition at age 16, Tullara has achieved remarkable things for such a young age. Tullara was recently the successful recipient of the 2015 NSW Young Regional Artist Scholarship awarding her with $10,000 from Arts NSW to travel to Ireland and be mentored by some of Ireland’s best tenor banjo players.
Having spent the last 4 years touring Australia and recording as half of popular folk/roots duo Siskin River, Tullara has racked up performances at many of the country’s largest and most respected music festivals including: The National Folk Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Caloundra Music Festival, and most recently under her own name at Woodford Folk Festival, Queenscliff Music Festival, and Mullumbimby Music Festival. Tullara recently returned from her first solo international tour performing at festivals in Ireland, Slovenia, Sweden and Germany.
Though still young, Tullara has encountered great success and great tragedy, and these experiences have transformed into the songs that make up her debut EP. Released November 2016, Better Hold On, explores honest and universal emotions through the intricacy of her guitar and the power of her voice. The lead single and music video Too Many (filmed in her hometown of Grafton) earned her Triple J Unearthed Spotlight Artist of the week, won the attention and praise of John Butler, landed her a supporting spot on internationally acclaimed artist Wallis Bird‘s Australian tour, and sees her featured in many of Australia’s leading festivals. Better Hold On was recorded in Melbourne by premier female producer and international touring artist Aurora Jane. It is an exciting taste of what’s to come from this young artist.
“Tullara has a way with words and a way with that guitar. She’s a gifted artist just at the beginning of what looks to be a promising adventure ahead.” – ARIA Award winning artist John Butler
